This is regarding a installation of Oracle 8.1.6.1.0 on Red Hat Linux. Oracle installed successfully and I did not receive any errors but now I am seeing mainly 2 issues that I have no leads on. I would appreciate it if any of you guys who might have experienced the same issues might be able to help me out.
1) I am seeing trace files in the udump directory with the following error:
skgm warning: EINVAL creating segment of size 0000000034438000
fix shm parameters in /etc/system or equivalent
skgm warning: EINVAL creating segment of size 0000000034435000
fix shm parameters in /etc/system or equivalent
2) when I try to bring up the db config. assisteant. I get the following message:
shell-init: could not get current directory
cd_links: could not get current directory
shell-init: could not get current directory
cd_links: could not get current directory
I would appreciate it if any of you could tell me what might the environment be missing?
Thank You,
Chenab

IT looks like that you have not set your shared memory options correct (i.e. seems to be some what low for oracle to startup with). So go ahead and bump the shared memory size at in the appropriate file, I'm sure on unix it is /etc/system but on linux I'm yet to venture. Once after making this change, bounce your server and I hope this would fix your problem.
Good luck

Thanks for your prompt reply.
We set up our shared memory options as per the pre-installation document. In most cases if the default was greater than what Oracle was requesting we left it at the greater value. Other than the pre-installation document can anyone tell me any other location where I could find the values the options need to be set at?
Also, I have no problems bringing up Oracle or the database. I have been running tests on the database for 2 days now. But I see a trace file sitting in the 'udump' directory and that is what my concern is. If the shared memory parameters were low I would imagine I would not be able to bring up Oracle and also it would have given me errors.
Thanks,
Chintz

I would suggest that you check the http://technet.oracle.com or http://metalink.oracle.com for a shared memory and semaphores. There are some good white papers there which would help you to better undestand the parameter setups. Currently I'm experienceing trouble in connecting to metalink and when I get it I'll try to cut and past that article for you, in case if you don't have the support.
