Check the hosts file in your PC.
Put both A and A.xxx.com after IP address.
Then try pinging both.
The hosts file is located at
C:\WINDOWS (For Win95)
or
C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\ETC (For WINNT WIN2K)
