    Question

I will be starting the Oracle Database Operator Certifiction Training in January Ending....I wanted to know if anyone has taken this route? There is only one exam involved and i was told this is a good way to get introduced to Oracle Databases. My BA is in Accounting but i am looking to change careers towards computers....A combination of both will hopefully give me a better edge. I am pretty familiar with SQL programming cos our accounting software's reporting tool is SQL based. Will i be able to get a job with this certification or should i skip it and go for the DBA Cert? I will glady accept any feedback ...

    Thanks
    Kris

Any certification alone will not guarantee you a job. Most compaines look for experience as well. This shouldn't be a reason for you not to get the certification, but don't think that this will automatically get you the job.

I have taken the DBO exam when it was in BETA stage.
It was very basic. The exam was mostly based on using OEM to do minimum work.
I believe it was intended for system admins and developers who are sometimes entrusted to perform some tasks related to the database. Seeing as you're not either, this alone will probably not be much help.

However, it will probably serve as a starting point for you to gain more knowledge into Oracle. If you've never worked with Oracle, this may serve as a good introduction, but don't quit your day job with just this Certification. The next logical step may be to take a SQL & PL/SQL class/exam.

    Good luck

hmmm...so should i take the DBO certification or not? The class starts end of this month so i have to make up my mind...quickly. It costs $2100 which includes texts and lab materials...is this a fair price? Or what route should i follow to get to my goal ( DBA ). I have little experience....
    Ill really appreciate some feedback.

    Thanks

Thumbs up Go for whole things

That seams like expansive or one course. In Taxes, you can get all 5 Oracle8I track just for $4000 (by Trade School, not by Oracle). And this includes Books, and other materials. I paid $3,500, but it was in special deal, and date was August 1999.

If you know SQL, go for whole things.
