Hi guys
I had 8.0.5 installed on windows 98 machine.
I wanted to install 8.1.6, so i deinstalled all oracle(products) applications and then went about installing 8.1.6.
Mid way throught the installation I got the following error.
"error in writting to c:/windows/system/olepro32.dll"
Any ideas !!
if so, shall appreciate if you can share your ideas or experience with this error.

solution
Hi, 20th May 2001 17:39 hrs chennai
Unfortunately, there is a problem installing Oracle 8i on Windows 95 or 98 machines. This error message may have something to do with the required Winsocket 2 update, but nothing is for certain.
This error message is very intermittent, and shows up randomly. The best way to get around this error requires you to do several things:
(1) Quit the installation
(2) Re-run the Oracle 8i installer and remove any installed Oracle products
(3) Remove Oracle and Temp directories that you see ;
(4) Remove all Oracle registry keys
(5)Reboot and reinstall the client. If this fails, you may need a clean installation of the OS.
Cheers

Thank you Padmam,
After I presented my question in the forum.. I was trying out different alternatives. The solution was in line with your suggestion. This was what I did.
1) deinstalled all oracle products
2) remove all oracle dir.s
* did not do anything with the "oracle registry key"
3) reran the installer
I still got the same error msg, but I continued with the installation. The installation was successful !!
I am looking around the database that the oem create for me (as part of the installation). Everything seems to be OK.
Thank you again,
nk
Question: where will I find the oracle registry keys on windows 98 os?
