    Production Vs. Named User

Before I go to my sales guy I wanted to ping you all with a question:

Is a 'production license' a 'production license' no matter what (no gray area)? My need is to create is replica of our production database to use as an adhoc reporting sandbox. The business people will use some tool or their own hand-written SQL to access to get answers. In my mind I'm considering this production and not 'Named user'. Also, does large Enterprise type hardware effect pricing vs let's say a Dell box running Linux?

In your experience is it just 1. production or 2. named user? Is it that black and white? I know that these are questions for my sales rep but I wanted some feedback before i go in.

thank you soooo much fo your time!

I go all named user, production and development, because I can count my users. If you can count your users on the "reporting box", I'd go that way.

It's not the hardware that bumps the price, it's the number of processors. So no, a 2x1.2Ghz Sunfire 280 will be priced basically the same as a 2x3Ghz Dell box.
