    Question New Forum?

Hello, I am a new member and appreciate your work in keeping this site. There is a lot of good material here, especially the Forums. I do have one question. Do you have plans for or see a need for a separate Forum dealing with Backup and Recovery issues? My company currently is using a third party backup application and we are now embarking on RMAN solutions. There may be a large audience for this Forum. Thank you for your consideration of this inquiry.

    Thank you,

    Hi tuple,

I'm not opposed to a new forum on backup and recovery, but I think I'll leave it up to the moderators. What do you say guys? Do you feel theres a need for a separate forum? A search on RMAN turns up 899 posts. All of those posts would probably need to be moved to the new forum. It would be time-consuming, and I'm not sure I've got the time for it right now. However, if some of the mods wanted to help move posts, I'd be glad to set the forum up.

And Someone says its good to have seperate forum for P&T and other say good to have exclusive forum for Installation & COnfiguration. Everything is part of Database Administration, it should be where it is right now.

AFA third party products, there are bunch of em, whoeverused it can definitely respond if a member have Question on that particular product.

Thats what I think... not easy to break up these multi-platform, product oriented technologies. One has to visit Vendor support sites for third party solutions and discuss here with other people who have used them before.

Others Comments Welcome, if one contradicts my view on new forums...

    Yes,
Backup and Recovery is the meat and potatoes of being a DBA.

    Great idea!

    Thanks

    Bad Idea !

You can go to www.dbaclick.com where they have different forums for each and every topic. Its so confusing over there, you can find every answer under one roof over here.

No need, its best the way it is... Rather an "off the topic" forum should be created as earlier suggested by Mr. Hanky, that will keep people from hijacking a thread

    Cheers

thanks for pointing me there guys. i like it very much. let's me explain:

if i want to read RMAN questions, why should i read network/tuning posts too. i think categories makes most sense. easy to find and navigate. and the searches are taking less time, because they have serach in particular category, not like here - searching tons of posts in one category. very slooow.

still think you are right ??? what about Oracle Forums - http://www.oracle.com/forums/index.jsp?cat=48 ? they have organized everything in categories. it used to be like your a long time ago. may be they spent some of their $$$ to find out what users like and what not. ok. that's what i wanted to say.

i am moving over to http://www.dbaclick.com

i usually do a search when looking for something. never read the topic's list. or simple look at the latest active posts, if want to get up to speed.

    does it matter then ...

People like tuple,snap-dba or quester who asks for these kind of features are those who are not going to contribute anywayz. Their only action is ask and ask, only suggesting for their own sake

dbacick is just a not worthy at all forum to me, you get categories then you go there and you see... or sub-categories! wth

here is much nicer, high tech and supportive moderators, nice & simply forum layout
