Hi Friends,
what are the steps to be taken to include a database in the enterprise manager? I did the following:
Set up the sid, host name etc in the tnanames.ora of the client machine.
Ensured that the listener is working on the server hosting the database.
configured the net8 easy config for the new databasse.
But still, when I try to connect and even during testing I get the error Oracle not available.
What else am I missing?
Thanks

Are you able to test the connection to the db from Enterprise MAnager??

You have to make sure that the oracle is available. then make sure that the connections are o.k by connecting through the sqlplus. Now go ahead and create a management server repository using the enterprise manager configuration assistant. That would create a repository. then go ahead and start the management server
oemctrl start oms
start the intelligent agent
lsnrctl dbsnmp_start
now open the enterprise manager console and connect to the OMS (oracle management server) as
sysman/oem_temp
This would help you to connect to the OEM then using the discoverer discover the node. Now you are all set to role.
Good luck,
Sam

Thanks Halo, and Sambavan,
ok, oracle is available. I am able to login to the server and work. The problem is coming when i connect thru, sqlPlus of "Oracle for NT'.
The enterprise manager is working for other databases on different servers. I wanted to add a new database.
Thanks

Then you got to rediscover or discover the node under which the new installation of oracle is at.
Could you try that.

Check your tnsnames.ora file has an entry for the new instance. If not create one. Then try to connect to the server through sqlplus. You should have this tnsnames.ora file present on the OMS server also, having the same entry.
Once you confirm that sqlworks then on the OEM console window, choose the Navigator on the menu panael and choose the discover. It will open the discovery wizard. On that you specify the new host that has the new instance created under. If the instance is one among the other database instances on the already discovered node, then you have to go to the node that has the database instances and right click the mouse and choose the rediscover option to rediscover the node. If all your connection parameter files like tnsnames.ora are configured fine then this should get you the database instance discovered under the Databases on the console window.
Please let me know, if you have any problems.
