Having problems using Oracle8i Personal Edition on win98 standalone PC. Installation seemed fine, logging in with SQLplus 8.1.6.0.0 is fine. Problem occurs when trying to setup a link table in Access via ODBC and DSN.

Get error message 'TNS adapter Error', searching this archive i found the 'lsnrctl status' which reports

    'Connecting to (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=TCP)(HOST=laptop)(PORT=1521)))
    TNS-12560: TNSrotocol adapter error
    TNS-00538: Message 538 not found; product=NETWORK; facility=TNS

32-bit Windows Error: 65: Unknown error'

This is not a networked PC, but Oracle running locally, any ideas what the correct settings for a local connection are?

    Check the ODBC driver compatability

    hi, 20th April 2001 21:22 hrs chennai

First check the ODBC driver compatability for the O/S.
Once my friend had the same problem of connecting through ODBC driver with VB with oracle 8i.He rectified by connecting with oracle ODBC driver not connecting through microsoft odbc driver for oracle.

Check whether you have to run it in 64 bit then 32 bit also.

    Cheers
