requirement for DB_NAME

I am having a pretty/silly question to get clarified (my long term doubt also)

Apart from the init ora parameter and in control file,

what other places, do we have the impact of db_name?
what is its requirement over instance_sid?

Will be useful to know during the case of changing a db_name.
