    Hello,

I have to do an export in Oracle 7.3.3 (SCO Unix) and then import in 8i (Red Hat).
Can I do this operation without problems?

    Thanks

If you use 7.3.4 exp and imp, I do not see any problem.

Using an export file from a lower version should not be a problem. Your 7.3 export file will import fine with the 8.1 import program. If you ftp the file, just make sure you are in BINARY mode and not ASCII mode.

How do I import export with specifying ASCII or BINARY format ? IS their any default ?
Is their a import export clause ?
If some one sends me a dmp file. Can I know if it ASCII or BINARY in any ways ?

i have observed even with Oracle 8.06 export import( same version) the ASCII would not work, does anyone know why ?

    thanks

There is no parameter and You don't export in ASCII/BINARY mode but you do FTP .dmp files from one box to another in BINARY mode.

If you do export and import on the same machine,
    do not worry about FTP.

you can do it export with exp70
and import on another machine with imp80.
The only thing is that you cannot do it by direct path.
