When the listener is running, if say lsnrctl status is show 2 entries for the same database services..But there is only one entry in listener.ora...These are the listener.ora contents and lsnrctl status . Oracle 8.1.5 on Digital UNIX.

8.1.5 and higher databases automatically register with the listener without an entry in listener.ora. If you take out your "SID_LISTENER_LIST" entries, you will only see one service handler.

Having two service handlers won't hurt anything. In fact, some of Oracle's products still require an entry to be in the listener.ora file (OEM I think).

As you rightly mentioned that having 2 service handlers is posing any problem. Everything works fine. Jus I was curious to know the reason. I will remove the entry "SID_LISTENER_LIST" from listener.ora and come back to you..

    Thanks

ABSOLUTELY no problem at all having 2 service handlers. You have 2 service handlers to serve user requests. Thats good.
