How to increase Oracle database memory. Is restart required to come into affect

    Hi

Can someone please tell.me the steps to increase the memory available to an oracle instance.

I would like to know both methods ...ie when database has been configured to use automatic memory management.

And also when database has not been configured to use auto memory management.

I would like to know if a database restart is required for changes to come into affect.

I also want the changes to be permanent.

I have searched the web but not found any easy step by step approach.

Please assume I will have enough memory on the server to double the memory size.

    Thanks in advance

    What version are you on?

You can define max target for memory and you can change memory target to change up to max without restart. But if you have to change max then restart is required.

You can save your setting to spfile to make it permanent
