    bakup controlfile

    hi,

    wen i'm trying to take controlfile bakup using ALTER DATABASE BACKUP CONTROL TO "FILE_NAME" BUT IT DISPLAY FOLLOWING ERROR MSGS.
    ORA-01580:error creating control backup filename
    ORA-27040:skgfrcre: create error, unable to create file
    OSD-04002: unable to openfile
    O/S-Error:(OS 5) Access is denied

    isnt it obvious, you dont have permission to open the file where you are trying to

    instead of FILE_NAME use $HOME/FILE_NAME.
    where $HOME is your home directory where you have the permission to create files.

    ... I wouldn't save it right to ORACLE_HOME but not everybody follows best practices. On the other hand, Sunil, you may want to check your error stack using oerr before posting your question
