Migration from RHEL 3 to RHEL 4

    Hi all,

    We are currenly running on:

    1/ RHEL 3 32bit
2/ 10.2.0.3 using ASM on raw devices. All datafiles are on EMC SAN.

The customer is proposing to move to RHEL 4 64 bit Oracle 10.2.0.3 64BIT

Now they wish to install the o/s on the same server. My question is, if the old RHEL 3 o/s is wiped out and new O/S installed on same same server:

-> I should be able to install 64 BIT oracle but will I be able to point it to the original datafiles ( will the orginal ASM diskgroup be accessable). Am slightly confused if the above is actually possible. Any ideas/thoughts will be highly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance,
    Chucks

    Hi Pav,

Understood. However this is a 2TB database using ASM. Will the orginal diskgroup be 'recognised' by the new 64 Bit install?

Definitely YES as long as you do not change the raw device names -- or even if you change them, you could set the ASM_DISKGROUPS and/or ASM_DISKSTRING initialization variables.
