In genernal, Apps DBA works specifically, but not limited, on Oracle Applications such as Financials, Manufacturing.

Oracle DBA is a general DBA who handles backup/recovery, performance tuning, install/upgrade, database reorg etc., or similar to Unix System Administrator.

There is also development DBA who works on new development(data modeling/design, data warehouse) and supports software developers.

Again a DBA can be doing all of these functions depending on your skills, projects and your own interests.
