error in upgrading 8.1.7.0 client to 8.1.7.4

    Hi,

I'm trying to upgrade oracle 8.1.7.0 client to 8.1.7.4 .
    i gave the LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/u01/oracle/product/8.1.7/lib:/usr/lib

When applying 8.1.7.4 patch it throws error saying
'error in creating link from /u01/oracle/product/8.1.7/lib/ldflags to
    /u01/oracle/product/8.1.7/lib64/ldflags "

Can anybody help me on this ...

    Regards

Read the 8174 patch READme files before attempting to do patching.
Try to create a link from /u01/oracle/product/8.1.7/lib/test to /u01/oracle/product/8.1.7/lib64/test and see if you get the same error.

The lib64 folder is not present in $ORACLE_HOME .. i've installed only the 8.1.7.0 client .. not the server

I want to upgrade the 8.1.7.0 client to 8.1.7.4 . and the 8.1.7.4 patch i took from metalik is for orace data server ..
Will it be one of the reasons ??

I checked the read me files.. nothing is written on that regarding this

Yes, When the patch is for the server how can you apply that for the client.

why you want to patch the client...?

the only way to patch a client is through the server patchset.

    Cannot be taken into assumption

Not all the server patches are applied on the client.
That depends on the patch Whether it needs to be applied on the client as well, specified clearly in README documents.
