Starting point to be a DBA
Hi All,
I am new to this subject and am very much interested in teaching myself DBA concepts. I would like to know your suggestions for me. I am teaching myself SQL commands but in regards to database concepts I am not that literate. I am a bit confused on how it works etc. My background is engineering so you can understand my struggle. However, I am very much interested in this subject and would be gratefull to anyone who can advice me or suggest any online links to improve my knowledge.
Thanks much,
Roja

You could start by reading. For example, if you read the forum description, you would find out "Oracle Database Administration" was for "Oracle Database Administration, Systems Management, Oracle Application Server, Oracle Portal and Advanced Topics related to Oracle" and not career related questions.

First install oracle on your desktop.
Second, Following the oracle OCP requirement. I think you only need to pass two exams to get OCP 10g. OCP will give you idea on what you need to know to become an oracle DBA.
After get OCP, then it is the time to read all those docs from oracle. Oracle document is the best place to get all information you need in detail.
Last, searching oracle metalink will give you a lot of answers on most oracle problems you may have.

See, it's people like this guy who just proved once again OCP's are worthless.
Work in the HR department?
Oracle it's not just a database it's a lifestyle!
