    Changing local time

    Hi falks,

We are going to change the local due to Daylight Savings Time.
Is there a way to change the local time in the OS without restarting the database?
    OS : Sun Solaris
    DB : 10g

    Thanks in advance,
    Nir

The time in OS is changed ,but my question is regarding the database:
Should we restart the database in any case due to the OS time changing?

I have a problem with sysdate in OS time...they don't match.

Sysdate is one hour behind the OS time. If I change OS time the change is reflcted immmediate in the database to, but again the difference is one hour.

Localtimestamp gives me the correct time, set time on gives me correct time,...

    Metalink :
Sysdate is just a system call to the
Operating System to get the time
    (a "gettimeofday" call).

Sysdate does NOT use the timezones in
    the database

    Metalink :
After you change the timezone on a
Windows machine you have to restart
    the oracle service.

I did bounce the database but still the same result.

    OS : Windows 2000 SP2
    Database : 9.2.0.1.0

    Regards,
    Aljaz

Have you set "Automatically adjust . . . for DST" in the Windows Date/Time properties? That works fine for me.
After you change the timezone on a Windows machine you have to restart the oracle service.

I did bounce the database but still the same result.
Note: shutdown/startup is NOT the same as restarting the Windows service.
