    unabe to fork new processes

Hello: We have an HPUX environment with 6 Oracle 9i environments with ample memory of about 25gb. In the past 2 days, I have recieved complaints from users that they are unable to fork new processes.

When I run ps -ef|grep ora|wc -l command I get about 650 forked Oracle processes and most of them are Dedicated processes LOCAL=NO. I couldnt even SU over as Oracle so I had to ask my unix admin to kill some of those forked processes.

I have SQLNET.EXPIRE_TIME set to 10 to cleanup dead connections but I cant understand why Oracle is forking so many processes?

    any suggestions?
    thanks

May be NPROC for HP Kernel is set to low value.

Check one more time the kernel parameters values.
