perl issues in regards to upgrade oracle to 9.2 from 8.1.7.2

Hi, from the "upgrde to oracle version 9.2.0 :unix" guide, pg 10, Basis were requested to get Perl version 5.6.1 or higher and which i did as evidenced as belows.

    # swlist | grep -i perl
    perl D.5.8.2.B Perl Programming Language

but when i check the version again, it still reflects the old one as
    below

    lfc 21> perl -v

    This is perl, version 4.0

    $RCSfile: perl.c,v $$Revision: 4.0.1.8 $$Date: 1993/02/05 19:39:30 $
    Patch level: 36

    kit.

    lfc 22> which perl
    /usr/contrib/bin/perl

Okay, my analysis is that this could be the path issue.

    lfc 31> whereis perl
    perl: /usr/contrib/bin/perl /opt/sir/bin/perl /opt/perl/bin/perl /opt/pe
    rl_64/bin/perl /opt/pe
    rl/man/man1/perl.1 /opt/perl_64/man/man1/perl.1
    lfc 32> /opt/perl/bin/perl -v

This is perl, v5.8.2 built for PA-RISC1.1-thread-multi
(with 25registered patches, see perl -V for more detail)

this system using `man perl' or `perldoc perl'. If you have access to

    Page.

    My analysis
    1) i manually set the path for /opt/perl/bin to be in front of /usr/contrib/bin. And now i got the below messages

    lfc 43> perl -v
    perl: Command not found.

    2) i had to set this manually as my orasid user reads this .dbenv_lfc.csh script.

    PS : I am on SAP 4.6C, oracle 8.1.7.2 , hpux 11

May be you are missing the path. Can you check the path once again.

Your approach of setting the new perl location 1st is right. There may be syntax errors.
