    gitmo

Well it's been really quiet round here recently (ie. boring). Fortunately the international red cross has submitted a report stating that activities at guantanamo bay are "tantamount to torture", thus giving us the chance to get back to the good old days on the Obfuscation forum.

So, can I find someone to say that this is all perfectly acceptable and is no-one's business except Americas?

    Thoughts?

    Angry

    I started a thread a little while ago: http://www.dbasupport.com/forums/sho...threadid=45381
Since there are mostly Americans in this corner of the forum:

What do you think of Guantanamo Bay?
Judging by the response, the answer was that Americans think F*** All about gitmo.

Given that pornography is a multi billion dollar industry, we would be more aware of it if we did think F*** about it. There should be a much stronger light thrown on what goes on there.

Well until recently there wasn't a lot of information -- some released prisoners claiming they were tortured, and speculation based on Abu Ghraib, but it's rather different now. If the IRC says that the practices are tantamount to torture (whatever that means, exactly), then there's not any question about it.

    You mean this: http://www.nytimes.com/2004/11/30/politics/30gitmo.html

Well, it's been building up gradually (that's how the ICRC works), already in October there were signs that they were v. unhappy: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/3179858.stm
In this instance, the ICRC says it has been urging the White House for months to make significant changes in Guantanamo.
I guess it got lost in the election farago.

It still doesn't seem to be "big news" here -- have a look round the news sites and it's as if it never happened.
