- Help !!! Oracle 8i Certification

Hi everybody,

I hv passed two paper 1ZO-023 and 1ZO-025 in jun and due to busy schedule at work place I didn't complete the rest 3 papers. now i m planning to appears in rest three papers.
As per oracle announcement all 4 core papers will not be available after 31st dec 2004.

now wht i want to check with u people is if i clear other 2 core paper (1ZO-024 and 1ZO-026) before 31st Dec 04 (means if i cleared all 4 core papers by 31st Dec 2004) and last 1ZO-001 (Sql) if i clear after 31 Dec 2004, is it still valid ? i mean am i eligible for 8i certification.

Five exams are required for 8i. They must be completed by the end of the year. What's not clear about that? Which exams are "core" and which are not? Answer: they are all "core."

As per oracle annoucement

All OCP Candidates currently pursuing the Oracle8i DBA OCP track will have until December 31, 2004 to complete the required core DBA exams.

After December 31st, 2004, the following 4 exams will no longer be available:

Exam 1Z0-023 Oracle8i: Architecture and Administration
Exam 1Z0-024 Oracle8i: Performance and Tuning
Exam 1Z0-025 Oracle8i: Backup and Recovery
Exam 1Z0-026 Oracle8i: Network Administration

Does it mean exam 1Z0-001 which is available after 31st Dec 2004 and one of the required exam for oracle 8i DBA track can take after 31st Dec 2004 ? and still i am eligible for 8i certification ?


i hv to clear three exam (two already completed) and Due to time constraint i can appears only in two exams (1Z0-024 and 025) and rest one(1ZO-001) which is availabel after 31st dec, would like to appear in jan 05.

That exam is applicable to other certifications. You still must complete all five exams prior to 31 Dec in order to obtain the 8i certification. That's the bottom line.

How about this. You take the four "Core" exams before 12/31/2004, and take the other one in the new year and report back to us. Then we'll all know.

You have a point, the announcement is somehow confuse about it.

You may simply call Oracle and ask about it. But, since they'll probably know about it as much as we do (in other words, nothing), actually), Jeff's idea seems the most reasonable: try it and tell us later.

I don't understand why this is so confusing for people. There is one exam that is applicable to other certification tracks, and it happens to be one of the required five for the 8i OCP certification. The other four 8i-series exams are being retired at the end of the year (resulting in the retirement of the track in general), which is news that has been beaten to death here and elsewhere. What is there not to understand about this: you must pass all five exams before the end of the year.

Avi123india, any minor bit of initiative spent looking around the education web site would immediately show you that this common exam (1Z0-001) applies to other certification tracks.

This exam is found in the Oracle9i PL/SQL Developer Certified Associate track, in the Oracle Forms 6i Developer Certified Professional track, in the Oracle9i Database Administrator Certified Associate track, and obviously in the 8i track.

Dear Avi,

Yes, you will earn your Oracle 8i DBA OCP certification if you pass the #1Z0-007 exam after 31 December, 2004. But you must complete the Oracle 8i DBA core exams before 31 December, 2004.

I owe you an apology. The wording on the education web site has changed in the past several months. It does appear that you can still become 8i certified by passing the four what-they-now-call-"core" 8i exams before December 31st AND pass either of 1ZO-001 or 007 anytime before or thereafter.
