    audit table design

I have a question about audit table design. Do we need to have audit table primary key as a part of main table?

Main table M Audit table A

    A has M.PK A.PK = A.KEY + M.PK

    should M have A.KEY? besides M.PK?

It would make no sense -- for each row of the main table there would be many rows in the audit table. How could the audit pk be part of the main pk?

I wouldn't put a PK on the audit table -- it doesn't need one.
