Small system generated TOO MUCH redo?

We have a small application with an Oracle DB (8.1.5) that I've been asked to look at.

For backup purposes I put it into Auto archive log mode last week.

For such a small system (1 or 2 users), that grows very slowly, it generates huge amount of redo. 200 Mb in 5 days, thats 4 times as much as some of our larger systems.

I really don't know 'what it does' - so, apart from the possibility that 'yes, it really is doing that many transactions' (which I can't believe) what could possibly be causing this?

    - transactions more complex than you think? (suggests poor db design)
    - batch update processes?
    - TS in backup mode? (were you making exceptional hot backups?)

I'd look at the time stamps on the archlog files to see if there is a pattern.

    (P.S. 200Mb/week is a lot for 2 users, but it's not HUGE.)
