    Anyone using Cognos DecisionStream?

    Dear All

There is talk from above in my company about purchasing Cognos DecisionStream as the ETL solution for a Data Warehousing project. I was wondering if anyone out there is already using this and had any DBA-related comments to make about it. One thing that's concerning me is that it'll work with any RDBMS and so I'm guessing that the datamart it creates won't take advantage of any of Oracle's various data warehousing features (partitioning, parallel query, materialized views etc.). I'm also guessing making such changes would break the support agreement. I'm also wondering how efficient the ETL process is e.g. has it generated SQL statements that have killed your production box?

    Any war stories much appreciated.

    Thanks

    Austin

Your concerns are applicable to all 3rd party tool/software, and they are true also.

Even if you use Oracle Applications, they do not use many new Oracle features. Remember appln dev team and kernel team are entirely different in Oracle.

You need to talk (dig) to the Tech Guys from Cognos to get more info.
