Two Oracle home on the same machine

If we have two Oracle home: 8.1.7.4 and 9.2.0.3 running on the same machine and let say if we decide to remove 8.1.7.4. Assume the primary home is 9.2.0.3, and no instance is on 8.1.7.4. All of the databases is runing on 9.2.0.3, is there anything we have to wacth out when we remove 8.1.7.4???

Personally, I don't see any problems.

    thanks,

If You're running on UNIX and you have seperate login's (meaning seperate user accounts) who own the two different ORACLE_HOME's then they're basically in thier own little worlds which means you shouldn't worry about anything. The only thing you do have to worry about is the orainst.Loc in the /var/opt/oracle.
What I do is when I'm finished installing one oracle home is to go rename the orainst.Loc to something like orainst.loc_prod so when it's time to do another install you're not stepping on it. Also, anytime you have to upgrade or install a patch just simply rename the orainst.loc_prod back to the orginal and vise versa for any other Oracle_home that you have.

    it's too easy

Hmmmm sorry to hear that. My sypathy goes out to you

In that case from what I remember, As long as you install the oracle homes to different places during the install process Oracle should make the necessary changes to the registery and also do the "oradim" stuff right. Also, if I'm not mistaken anytime you do command line stuff you have to specify the Oracle sid.

You should be good to go. Use the OUI to do the de-install.
