    Exclamation Automatic gathering of statsitics

    In the 9 Series of Oracle is there functionality to gather statistics automatically? Let's say that I runs stats every day at 4AM. If I have a user that adds a new table at 8am and populates it, a user querying it will not get to take advantage of stats on it until the next day. I am curious if there is some kind of 'on the fly' automatic generation of stats out there.

    You could investigate the regular gathering of stale statistics.

    i) turn monitoring on for the tables you want to ... well, monitor

    ii) run DBMS_STATS.GATHER_SCHEMA_STATS(...,options => 'GATHER STALE',...) as frequently as you think necessary.
