ORA-600 in alert log : Is this "pageble" ??
DBAs,
The question is : How seriously should one take the ORA-600 messages in alert log ? They are important but, should an on-call DBA be paged in middle of night just because a monitoring tool identifies an ORA-600 in alert log ? Or, can it wait until next working morning ?
What has been your experience @ this ? How has this been setup in your environments ?
TIA.

an ORA-600 can cause a statement to fail,
if you are running say a large payroll job and get an ORA-600
that goes unattended better hope your developer catches it
or you are in deep trouble
is it a pageable event? only you can answer that

Hi,
ORA-00600 error is basically bug in Oracle.Normally this error comes up rearly when your Oracle software needs to be upgraded on certain platforms. This ORA-00600 messages have to be taken seriously as sometimes it might make the instance to fail abnormally in a middle of some important job.So its better that you address this issue as soon as possible and take the help of Oracle Support guys to resolve this issue otherwise this might lead to serious implications on your database.

ora-600's are rarely fatal to the instance,
please don't call it a big, Oracle prefer's the term 'Undocumented feature'
Also, have fun with your unix admin by typing 'oracle' at the command line, throws an ora-600 in the alert log

In my experience many 600 errors 'not really panicky' type.....memory leak/space leak is the one I get most.....check the arguements....which is more important....u should take action based on that.

If there is an error in the alert.log, I want to know about it. I'll be the judge if it's "important" or not.

Thanks for the replies folks.
Can someone tell me how do you handle it in your setups ? Does it get paged out ?
Jeff : Would you like to get paged @ it in middle of night if you are on-call ?

Do I like it? No.
Is it my responsibility to make sure the databases are up and jobs are getting done? Yes.
