Password file , what am I missing here????

    Hi all,

I kept have problem when I connect to Oracle using internal/password, at first I thought I have the wrong password so I recreate the password file. Everything is working but when the next time I log in I got the error:

    ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied.

    what's wrong???

Mike, Is there by chance there is a presence of more than one password file and you are using the wrong one?

Try following, if you haven't yet.

Can you test connecting with SYS as SYSDBA?
Does the password for SYS work for internal?
Can u connect to Internal without giving any password?
Has the value of REMOTE_LOGIN_PASSWORDFILE has been changed?

Other than that, I cannot think of anything.

REMOTE_LOGIN_PASSWORDFILE is used to set to exclusive and I just changed to SHARED.

one weird thing is that I did rename the password file so I can recreate the password file using ORAPWD but it tell me that the file is already exists.

    any thoughts???

hmm dunno what to say. By any chance is there a password file that is hidden and you are referring to? Change the display settings and search again. Aslo do check the registry entry ORA__PWFILE to validate if you are using the right Password file.
