I am a new DBA moving to a new DBA role. I was wondering if you could share your wisdom with me. I have no clue what a DBA should do on a day to day basis.

Learn that phrase by heart and say it with confidence
and you are half way to being a dba
Oh , also read the concepts guide at http://tahiti.oracle.com
for a nice introduction to dba concepts.

Don't forget to throw in a samettering of
"It must be your code" when dealing with developers
Listen to him, he is a genius.
CASE IN POINT...
I just got a frantic phone call from one of my apps groups. They managed to blow out a 3 gig RBS in production with a huge transaction.
Their solution?
Add more space, of course!! that must be it right? WRONG!!?
I suggested that for a transaction this large, that is taking 6+ hours to run, they might (duh!) want to consider coding a COMMIT in there at some point. Call me kooky.
