    Question Starting OracleServices

Hi. I'm trying to configure an autostart of Oracle service (SID) and the instance. I keep getting the following error.

    E:\oracle\ora81>oradim -STARTUP -SID AODB5 -USRPWD aodb678 -STARTTYPE INST&
ORA-01078: failure in processing system parameters

I tried different syntax without much success. Please help. Thank you.

    Hi,

Do the following steps on the host:
    1. control pannel-->administrative tools-->services
    2. Stand on OracleService
3.Mouse right click-->properties-->startup type: change to "Automatic"

    Regards,
    Nir

Hi. Thanks for the info. The instrction that you provided was to auto restart the service only. What about to auto start the service and database? You need to run the ORADIM command in NT. I tried but keep getting sysntax error. See below. Thanks again.

    E:\oracle\ora81>oradim -STARTUP -SID AODB5 -USRPWD aodb678 -STARTTYPE INST&
ORA-01078: failure in processing system parameters

& Reboot after that so changes take effect.

    Hi Pascal,

I don't think it likes the & at the end. It may also be expecting a -PFILE (depends on what happened before).

But I think you are barking up the wrong tree. The -STARTUP option is for actually starting it up. If you are configuring it, then you want the use -NEW or -EDIT option. I suspect (don't know) that if you want it (service plus db) to be autostart, you will want the -PFILE param. Oradim should allow you to avoid hacking the registry.

Sure oradim does that with the STARTMODE auto parameter.

Hi. I already have the register setup to TRUE. According to Oracle doc 139369.1, you still need to run the ORADIM command to auto restart the instance. I am getting that syntax error. Not sure why?

If you get the config right, then starting the service will start the db under it.

AFAIK, if you delete the SID you have created, then all you need is:
ORADIM -NEW -SID xxx -INTPWD xxx -STARTMOD auto -PFILE X:\xx\INITxxx.ora

Pascal Not sure wat u want exactly....

if u have set up reg prams...service is created...then why do u use ORADIM to start service..when u have other WIN commands to start service...

    Like

    Net Start OracleService%SID%

If in reg the pram ORA_%SID%_AUTOSTART...is TRUE..then it will startup DB as well picking up the pfile from defualt loc...
    Oracle_Base\Ora_Home\Database\Init%SID%.ora
    funky...
