    R u sure that 100% CPU utilzation is by ORACLE.exe which is run as a process by WIN OS.
    funky...

    without more information I can guess the following

    I have encountered the same problem ealier while we had antivirus software installed on Windows/Oracle server or you have screen saver activated .

    Disabling both of them will save you hanging danger.

    Sorry, I thought this was NT, I have encountered this problem on NT and a re-boot works wonders. Is there a way to track down the runaway process in Solaris?
    Was the server (not the instance) re-booted?

    Hmmm... This is intresting... your system seems to be f**ked up...

    CPU usage is 100%, but all oracle8 user processes are consuming 1193M of memory not cpu, each oracle8 user CPU% consumption is around 1.90% approx. And what is this command oracle ??

    Show you SGA... and init.ora parameters

    CPU states: 0.0% idle, 95.5% user.

    Who are the other users other than Oracle8 ??

    try
    $ who

    Is there any system administrator around at your place ? ask him to find the bottle neck...
