    Backup and recovery testing

    Backup Strategy 2:

Hello: We are trying to recreate a db on a diff box totally using export as
one of the disaster recovery strategies..

    Database Size: Extents allocation (100GB)
    Export Dump size: 18-20GB

Database: Oracle 817 on Win2000 (No Archive log)

    1. There will be an export of the full database everynight.
    2. Need only the restoration to the most recent export taken
    3. Export Parameters (user: System, direct=y, full=y) So all users
    4. Before export all TS and User Creation scripts to be made.
    5. Init.ora will be preserved.

    Testing Strategy 2: (Assumptions)
    1. We would get a Win2000 AS box with enough disk space.
    2. Time is not a problem (recovery time, 24-48 hrs OK)
    3. Disk Configuration could be totally different (may be only 2 or 3 drives)
    4. Present Disk Config: made up of 8 for DF, 1 for Redo, 3 for Ctl Files

    Solution 2:
    1. Create a database with same name on this new box from 8i EE CD (Custom)
    2. Make sure the DB is up and running with all system defaults.
    3. Create all Tablespaces as was existing before after editing based on disk configuration
    4. Create all users as before with defaults TS based on TS.
    5. Import the full database. (from/to user=system, Full=Y)
(All Parameters for effective Imports will be done..)
    6. All TS definitions in export dump will fail since new TS are created with new paths.
    7. Import process will continue as all users are also created
    8. Check the entire database by running reports and DB and Data level.

    What's missing ??

    Thanks, ST2000

Adweri.. Please comment. I need them to build a strategy that ultimately works.. I have the first option put in as well, using cold backup.. Please read through that aswell..

    Thanks, ST2000

    Hi,

Will the new DR box have a different IP/Hostname? If so any clients connecting to the database will have to be made aware of this change.

You may also require a copy of the original listener.ora file.(possibly tnsnames.ora also).

    Good luck with the testing.....

    Kind Regards
    Moff.
