Take it from the pro. You know nothing...

Do you have experience on EMC storage technologies?

Did you work on Veritas Cluster Manager and Volume Manager?

How much know about installing 9i RAC on a Sun rack?

Do you have minimum 3 years work experience in OCI and OCCI?

    Do you know oracle clinical?

These are some of the questions from clients looking for oracle DBAs.
You have long long way to go...keep your chin up...

I could be wrong, but I thought that RAC was currently only available for Linux and Microsoft platforms...Sun, HP, and IBM OS's will be available in the next release of Oracle (10i).

You are right. It is not a certified configuration but brave souls do attempt it.

I recommend you take some writing or grammar courses. Spelling wouldn't be a bad idea either. Advise? You meant advice. That's not a typo - it's bad spelling/vocabulary.

hmm that's new to me, I thought RAC is certified in UNIX before than others, considering it uses TruCluster technology from Tru64

And in fact RAC is indeed certified on UNIX

Not from Oracle, but this was the article I read:

    http://www.internetweek.com/breaking...W20021115S0002

Oracle 10i To Offer Clustering On Sun, HP, IBM Unix Versions

    By Techweb News

Oracle plans to upgrade its database next year with improvements in capacity and clustering, according to reports.

The clustering functionality of Oracle Real Application Clusters, which detects when nodes are failing, will be extended to Unix systems from Sun Microsystems, Hewlett-Packard, and IBM. That functionality is now supported only on Windows and Linux.

Capacity will be improved to the petabyte range, for applications such as data warehousing and life sciences. The current capacity is hundreds of terabytes.

Oracle will also improve the performance and capabilities of XML DB support, which allows the database to act as an XML store.

Oracle is also developing portal technology, called OmniPortlet, for aggregating information from different sources. And the company plans manageability improvements to its database.

The next database version, referred to internally as Oracle 10i, is expected to ship in mid-2003.

I think we have some missunderstanding points. I think that article probably refers Oracle 10i will come with Cluster software for unix? Because RAC in Linux you dont need any cluster software, it comes with Oracle software

I have seen several RAC demos running on Tru64, HP-UX and Solaris and they all detect when the node fails, also there is a certification matrix for RAC on Metalink and you can see they are certified on Tru64, HP-UX and AIX for 64bits platforms and 32/64 bits on Solaris

Well, after reading this, I realise in fact I know nothing. 4+ years experience down the tube...

newbie5 is a litle harsh, you DON'T infact NEED to know all these things to be a good DBA, and in MANY LARGE workshops, a DBA won't get to even go near EMC and Veritas.. EVER. Because, that's the Unix SA's baby...

Installing RAC, not had to do it yet, I've not worked for any shop that had a RAC or OPS configuration. I'm sure I could if I had to, but becasue I haven't doesn't make me bad at my role.
