from the docs, I should be able to drop the tablespaces as long as I have no data in there or if I don't care about the data that were stored in that tablespace, right??? SO I drop the tablespace and I want to go to OS to delete the datafiles, most of the time, I was able to drop the datafiles fine with no problem; however, sometimes, I have problem with sharing vialotation and it didn't allow me to drop the datafiles untill I shutdown the database. Can someone explain why most of the time I can drop but sometime I can't

    thanks

Not sure where you got that from the docs. You can definitely drop a tablespace that has data in it. (sometimes by accident, don't ask...)

You must be on an inferior OS like WindoZ. The key would be to offline your tablespace before you drop it.

    jEFF,

I am sorry I misintepret myself. What I mean earlier is I can drop with or without data in there, with data I will lose all of data, so I can drop it as long as I don't care about data.

any way, thanks for the info as usual and yes I am on windozzz so that's why I have that problem.
