    Archive log

    Dear all,

I have installed oracle 9i standard edition into unix. When I create a database in archive log mode using the database configuration assistant, the following errors occurs:

ORA-000439: feature not enabled: Managed Standby

And in v$option, the parameter of "managed standby" is False. Is that standard edition doesnt support archive log or I need to choose something when installing the database?

    Thx
    Loren

    Hi.

Standby database is only available in enterprise edition, but archivelog mode is available in standard edition to allow hot backups.

    Cheers

Your problem is that you have LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST_n (n=1..10) parameters in your init.ora. Those parameters are not supported in standard edition. You must use LOG_ARCHIVE_DEST (and LOG_ARCHIVE_DUPLEX_DEST if needed) to specify archiving destination in standard edition.
