    Hei,
How did you pass your OCP.
Of course you can import the dump file from 8i into 9i, if the characterset does support between the two server.

My thoughts exactly. And not for the first time.

Amit, as an OCP, by now you should at least have learnt how to use Oracle documentation set to find such basic information.

And BTW, the wast majority here allready knows it is possible, so no need to persuade us with your subject title.

Day by day, OCP certification is approaching the value of the MCSE certification. It just took another step closer with that question from an OCP DBA. Same question from a new person? No problem answering it. Maybe if the question were like - "Can I export from 7.3.4 and import directly into 9.0.1?" - then yeah, most people would be willing to deal with that question because there are versions that require some intermediate steps before getting to a 9i database.

But the original question??? Why not ask where the on/off switch is for the database? Oracle9i comes with a separate button for your computer so you can turn on and turn off the database.

Anybody here can add to his signature OCP or whatever. It does not automatically imply he is one :-)

    Attn:chao_ping,Jmodic,julian,stecal!!!

    Hey guys!

How come on earth you have so much of time to criticize than to share experiences.....

If a person asks or is in doubt about something, may be the simplest of them all,you grab the opportunity to criticize...

Automatically putting in the signature as Oracle DBA in this forum i believe applies to you'll here whom I am referring.I am a genuine guy and had passed the Oracle DBA OCP exam on my own merit basis!Got the ID as well as certificate...

One day there woud be a person who would do the same to you'll here...

What exactly do you'll think yourself to be!A BBB.....

Okay, so you are an OCP who forgot (or never knew) one of the most basic or fundamental concepts of how export/import works. The answer to your question is "yes." It's not like you were confused between v$sesstat and v$sysstat or any of the other 1000+ tables in the data dictionary. Don't feel bad you didn't know something obscure; just feel bad you didn't know something really, really basic.

That's a good one: "So much time to criticize than to share experience..."! Especially when comming from you. I don't know about others you have mentioned, but I did perform a quick search on your threads where I have tried to "share my experiences", and here are just a few of them:

    http://www.dbasupport.com/forums/sho...threadid=29239
    http://www.dbasupport.com/forums/sho...threadid=29426
    http://www.dbasupport.com/forums/sho...threadid=29896
    http://www.dbasupport.com/forums/sho...threadid=30015
    http://www.dbasupport.com/forums/sho...threadid=20126

    http://www.dbasupport.com/forums/sho...threadid=19458
    http://www.dbasupport.com/forums/sho...threadid=13157

And what can I conclude from them? In many of them, you were asked to supply furteh details or answer some additional question - you never bothered to reply! In others you were given exact answers or at least suggestions - you almost never bothered to post any followup or comment about how it worked or how you solved your problems, or even to express your gratitude for people taking their time to help you solve your problems.... You are right, i should realy ask myself: how come on earth I have so much time to share my experiences with you, considering your attitude?
I am a genuine guy and had passed the Oracle DBA OCP exam on my own merit basis!
Oh yes, I know that. I allready commented on that fact long ago in a thread about "paper OCP" phenomenon - check http://www.dbasupport.com/forums/sho...0&pagenumber=2

In there I wrote the following:
... For example it realy raised my blood presure about a week or two ago when a person was asking the following question in the Administration Forum (I'm not making it up, it realy was like follows, except that I'm repeating his question from memory):

"I'm writing my Backup&Recovery OCP exam in 10 days. Would someone expalin me what is archivelog mode? Can I take cold or/and hot backup when database is in archlog/noarchlog mode?".

When in my answer I expressed my surprise how someone that doesn't have a clue about the most basic concepts of Oracle database can be serious about taking B&R OCP test he probably got embarased and he immediately removed his thread from the forum.

BTW, I don't doubt he passed the exam, one can learn (or beter to say, memorise) many things in 10 days. So much about the value of OCP.
Of course, it was you I was talking about. And BTW, as you announced in another thread the very next day, you have passed your B&R exam!!!

    P.S.
I hope this time you'll shove more courage and will restrain from cowardly removing this embarrasing thread.

Good Grief, This really hacks me off!!!!

There are people in this forum who have put a lot of personal time into learning the product whether for OCP or not as well as those who expend energy answering questions.

Thankfully this and other forums exist to assist in the more obscure aspects of the product.

Then this bloke gets all uppity when someone rebukes him for not knowing the basics but having an OCP sig *sigh*

Well listen here matey, the first thing you do when you have a question in this industry, is RTM (include the "F" if you wish). It's not like they are tough to find and if you don't have WWW access burn a copy of the most relevant ones on CD-R (many thanks to T for his help).

At least then you'll be able to ask a targeted question. Regardless of the question, if someone is good enough to point out that you don't know the basics, take it as assistance in pointing out topics you should review.

    Cheers

    Nick

Feel free to disagree, I'm bored today anyway
