Hi All,
I have configured Oracle8i client on my NT machine. The server is located at a different IP Address. So I started configuring my Oracle Client.Here are the steps that I followed configuring it.
1. I opened Net8 configuration Assistant. Choose Local Net Service Name.
2.selected Add option.
3.It asked for version of Oracle or service: I choose
Oracle8 release 8.0 or oracle7 database or service
4.Next it promped for SID I entered APPS.
5.Next it asked for n/w protocol and I selected TCP/IP.
6.next prompt was for hostname. I entered the IP Address of server with port defaulting to 1521.
7.next I tested the connection and it said "connecting...test Successful"
8.next it prompted for an Net service Name and I entered -jaya.
So this way my net configuring was complete and connection was successfully tested. All the entries were put up correctly in tnsnames.ora.
But when I open SQL* Plus and enter the same userid, password and hoststring as jaya I am getting the error :
ORA-12154 TNS : couldnot resolve service name.
Please help me.

From DOS prompt, what does tnsping give?
c:/> tnsping jaya
