    I have killed a long running user session that was disconected from the application that started it,
    using alter system kill session.

    The process is now marked as killed but still shows as running and updating a table in v$session/v$sqltext.

    When does this get removed from Oracle ? Is it only after retsarting the database? Is is not in reality still runing ? (oracle 8.1.7)

    Thanks for any info.

    It is still running, and Oracle will clean up memory as soon as it finished or when you restart server. It not always stop process immediately after you kill session.
    Best wishes!

    Dear sir

    I have faced similar problems How frequently in terms of Seconds V$session view is refreshed ???
    I have seen people loggin out their sqlplus sessions/Applications sessions and still Sessions are active in V$session.

    Also How does PMON roll backs user transactions at what rate it queries the user Processes.

    I am sure we are not able to Tune PMON.

    Thanks

    V$SESSION as any other V$ view is a simple, normal view (ie stored query), so it is never "refreshed".
