The basic concepts will transfer from platform to platform. Some things may change (such as file paths, etc.) but for general knowlege, they're the same.

In other words, the SQL commands remain as it is. But the OS commands vary.

    Hi

Why not just install Oracle on a Linux machine at home. Then the differences would be narrower ;-D

IMHO, the main difference between UX and NT is that one is an OS, and the other one pretends to be one )

seriously, the main difference resides in the service creation on NT but once this is handled (using oradim), Oracle versions are quite identical.

all the Oracle concepts remain exactly the sames from one OS to the other, nevertheless you surely won't use the same tools on NT and Unix...

that's my next step... install linux and then oracle for linux... but right now, i am using PL/SQL developer connecting to my Oracle running on win2k... what tool can i install on Linux that would give me the same functions as PL/SQL developer? I dont want to rely on SQL*PLUS.

WHY NOT SQL PLUS...You can rely on Sql plus more than any other tools.

If you still want to get a feel of Unix- working on windows use cygwin software..commands will be the same as unix but oracle will still be a single service.
