Thread: very urgent...

    Hi
    I am running a oracle 8.0.5 production database in archivelog mode. today morning, the server colapsed and I am just left with the morning hotbackup files and nothing else. I have a backup copy of my init.ora file. I want to create a new instance on another machine and restore these datafiles on the new machine. Could anyone guide me on this as it is very urgent and I need to bring the database back ASAP.

    did u copy the control file as well? Cause normally after perform the hotbackup for the datafile we do backup controlfile.

    Make sure that you have backup control file, datafiles from last hotbackup and all the archied redo logs.

    Recover the database using backup controlfile (only if you have lost current controlfile)
