From my understanding, You must be an expert on the architecture of oracle and how oracle works... in different environments specific to different business scenarios? You should be okay in real time environment too as teaching different issues/problems with examples is part of db administration and making students learn...and explore... technology.

How confidant are you in implementing your knowledge, given a production box, with 24X7 availability ? This justify you are ready to rumble OR you need some time to get to real environment... You are in software field already! I don't think teaching oracle is not part of IT. Cheer up and start building a career...

AFAIK, Certificate will not get you a job but, build confidence to get a job... GOOD LUCK!

It takes a strong person to remain confident when they have spend six months slugging it out in the bedroom tring to get an OCP and probably spent thousands supporting themselves whilst doing it only to be told that they would ot even be considered unless they have 2 years solid DBA experience.

In my honest opinion OCP is overrated and watered down as far as using it to get a DBA job with is concerned, especially without any experience. I used it purely to broaden my knowledge and it is excellent for that!!. I would not consider doing one unless I was already involved in Oracle somehow - Developer/Support etc.

There are people out there who have studied for years through execllent University Institutions and they can't get a job, how do you think a 6 month paper OCP will help you?

The problem is that an Oracle DBA is probably dealing with 24*7 business critical systems that simply CAN'T go down, the employer needs to ensure that they are hiring a person that can deal with this pressure.

In UK any Junior DBA jobs are now advertised with a recommendation for a 1st class honours degree and 1 year experience before even being considered... No mention of OCP.

Once you have eliminated all of the impossible,
    whatever remains however improbable,
    must be true.

Yoda will have to back me up on this, but isn't there a saying that goes:
"Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach."

May be TRUE but, how its possible: You can teach 'em to do but, you can't do the same. Probably it boils down to Personality, interest, intentions, commitment blah blah...
