    All,

as you might have already seen in a previous post, I'm installing ORacle8i and 9i instances on a sun-machine.
I've got 2 machines, one main and one backup, with standby db's.

They work fine over the network, but as of today the 2 machines have a private network (cross cable), and are therefore able to do the standby-synchronisation via this cable, instead of via the network.
Now the problem is the following:
For the db's to be able to communicate via the private network for synch, and over the normal network for other users to be able to connect, I need the listener to listen at the two IP's used by the machine (local + network). Can I add a second line in the listener.ora with a second tcp -host with the 2nd IP, or will oracle not understand this?

    Thx,

    Rik

    Rik,

You should be able to listen on both ips. Set up TWO listeners, one for each host ip and test it.

    e.g. LISTENER_IP1 + LISTENER_IP2

(N.B you will have to explicitly start each one from lsnrctl)

    Brgds,

    Andy

If you put the hostname of the machine it will listen on all network connections. If you specify the IP, you will have to specify for all the cards you want to listen on. So, one listener is fine.
