With the OCP you get a plastic card and a cool logo.
Yes you do learn Oracle to a fairly good level.

But, for the Oracle Master level you need to take 2 Oracle ILT classes. After paying for the classes you need to take a practicum test.

"The location for Americas is Chicago, IL. The cost for the practicum is $2000.00 US Dollars. "

After that what do you get?
Maybe Oracle should give something more than a plastic card and a new logo?

I know they use to give a tie pin for being OCP. Oracle ended that after someone sued Oracle for pinning themselves.

    Just ranting outloud.

So what would it take for those 9i OCPs out there to go for OCM?

BTW, I got a blue bowl with silver edges with my name embedded in the glass under OCM :-)

    That's cool!!!

If I go for it I would hope to get something meaningful.
I was thinking a ring like a college alumni right would be nice : )

At least the ILT requirement and hands-on exam will weed out the brain dump/cheat sheet OCP's. Of course, it will weed out actual DBA's who can't afford the expense, but I'm willing to bet that is a much smaller proportion of the pool.

I reckon you should get a pointy hat with OCP MASTER on it (complete with fluffy chinstrap), and Oracle make it compolusary for you to wear it whilst sitting at your terminal. heh heh

Whatever the certification from Oracle, I'd hate to see them become about as worthless the MCSE cert. Way too many "I passed a few tests/How do you start SQL*Plus?/I'm certified/Now hire me because of that" OCP's and MCSE's out there.

Perhaps one of the requirements for OCM should be a certain number of years of experience, rather than doing ILT courses.

Once passed, the OCM candidate should be branded on the forehead with the Oracle logo.

So you still have the spare space to tatoo CISC on the other butt cheek :-) In case you decide to switch software products :-)
