Thread: 8i on linux error

    i was installing 8.1.7 on linux
    when i tried running the runInstaller script i got the following error
    Initialising java runtime...................
    map failed
    can anyone suggest what might be wrong??

    What ver of Linux are you using??

    I had the same when i tried installing this on Suse 7.3, you have to use a lower ver of java. Firstly, I downgraded the java runtime and everything installed but the db did wierd and wonderfull things..... in the end I have installed it on Suse 7.1 and it works great!!!!

    i am using Redhat linux 7.3
    i had installed previously oracle 8.1.5 which required java to be downloaded and installed from blackdown.org this got the runInstaller to work fine.
    do i have to do something similar now too.....
