Hi,
when I try to mount oracle8i database on Win2000 with svrmgrl I got the error message ora-01102 (not possible to mount database in exclusive mode). I guess, the reason is an another started instance but I do not know from any other startet instance. Is there a view to 'see' all started instances?

if you are in Windows environment -
you can check the services in control panel.
you can even check it from the Processes tab in Task Manager

Hello,
Look at this, probably it helps
http://www.orafaq.com/msgboard/windows/messages/851.htm
There is no view accessible for viewing all Databases, i think

The services-dialog is not a help checking which db is online;
The OracleService can be started but the db can still be down.
Probably if there is a OracleStart... Service started then the Instance is already opened by startup.
Look in registry, there are some entries which controls the startup-properties of the db.

The behavior of oracle is confusing sometimes!
On svrmgrl I tried to mount the database an got the error message. So I made 'shutdown immediate' and tried to mount again. No success.
I started the instance manager connected as internal and started the instance. NO PROBLEM!
That is not a solution I think.
Is the default value of the startup command 'exclusive' or what could be reason for this behavior?
