I am running the IA on a Sparc machine. I received the following msg from our sr. sys admn. I'd like to ask your opinions if his command is right or not. Moreover, I hope that you guys can give me your opinion regarding this case. Thank you very much.

"....You need to modify the monitoring process, because there's no reason that the dbsnmp process is constantly running on the cpu as it is currently. I consider that a misconfiguration. snmp properly configured should require minimial resources. You should not even notice that snmp is running on a system. ...."

Are you using OEM or any other oracle products to schedule jobs or events? on that case you would see the dbsnmp to be active. Check the time when this suggestion was made and also the events schedule. If they both match then it will explain the reasons.

When no job was running, the CPU usage looked as follow. You can still see the dbsnmp processes and the CPU usage %.

PID USERNAME THR PRI NICE SIZE RES STATE TIME CPU COMMAND
    27692 oracle 1 0 0 1824K 1456K cpu/10 0:00 1.16% top
    14079 oracle 5 58 0 12M 7704K sleep 0:33 0.25% dbsnmp
    15865 oracle 1 58 0 2608K 1808K sleep 0:22 0.16% top
    14078 oracle 5 58 0 11M 6616K sleep 0:30 0.10% dbsnmp
    1723 oracle 1 48 0 1872K 1424K sleep 0:00 0.05% ksh

That is pretty normal, I would think.
