    Hi everybody,

We currently have a 200 GB datawarehouse running on Oracle 9i Enterprise Edition 2 processors Atlon on Windows 2000. We want to re -engineer the datawarehouse by using
External Table feature from Oracle 9i to store historical data. To save money we want to switch to Oracle 9i Personal Edition. It is being said that Oracle Personal Edition is limited
to one licence. What does it mean? What would be the limitations for a datawarehouse of this amplitude to run
on Personal Edition. Did anyone did this? Please advise.

    Thanks
    CD

    Hi

Personal edition is used for stand alone system database you cannot possilbly think of puting a datawarehouse database on Personal edition.

If the engine is the same in both Enterprise and Personal edition and there is no limitation on how big the db could be...
and the limitation is just on the license then why not have
a database on Personal edition? Note that the database
will run on the following hardware config:

    Dual ATLON MP 1800
    1GB DDR RAM
    600 GB of disk space

The response time for queries running on this machine
is 25% faster than same queries running on server with following config :

    COMPAQ 5500 R
    4 X 400 MHZ
    1Gb RAM

What are we losing by switching to Personal Edition?

I thought that the only difference in functionality between
Personal Edition and Enterprise Ed is Ability to cluster or RAC.
