Hi
I'm planning to take my 9i upgrade exam on March 29th.
I'm here for last minute tips/tricks/advise from 9i Gurus
Tim Hall, Julian, GRJohnson and all others who are 9i certified.
I've a feeling that this exam would be different from all other exams which I took to date. No breakdowns available only the objectives on oracle site.
Any suggestions and comments are welcome.
Thanx
Regards
Have a great week end

Oracle claim that it is easier than the Oracle8i OCP upgrade. I'm not so sure myself. It could be that I had less experience of 9i than 8i when I took the exam.
The format of the exam is similar to all the others. There's more emphasis on multi-answer questions. Less of the straight forward pick-one type questions.
Learn the stuff you've been pointed to on this forum and you'll be fine. Keep us informed of your progress.

Check again your preparation materials on the new features related to tablespace management. Do not try to memorize syntax. Concentrate on concepts.
Wish you thevery best of luck! I am sure you'll pass.

Would you please share your experience with us regarding how to prepare yourself for 1Z0-030 in such a short time? I remember that you said that you would spend about four months to prepare it.
Thanks,

FOR YUXING
____________
Well I took a 5 days course at a local oracle academic initiative partners and got some goodies as a package deal.
I'm originally working as Database Analyst and always in touch with development dba's, production dba's and developers all in Oracle/Solaris environment that gives me an added benefit to consult anybody and use online/CBT resources.
And one good thing happened after my completion of 8i DBA that I was offered a part-time teaching position to teach 9i DBA track during evenings & weekend from exam 2 onwards.
I think when one teaches he has to make his/her concepts clear first and reach at a certain comfort level where he/she can deliver the material with ease. So at this point after teaching 9i to 2 different classes I'm quite confident. Now I've to prepare for my exam and I'm doing so.
Resources I'm using are
Robert Freeman's book, Daniel Benjamin Book, Computer based Training(NetG for 9i upgrade and of course, the most valuable 5 days course for new features at a a local school, Tim Halls website and Oracle Documentation, etc. I think that's more than enough to prepare for this exam. March 29 th is a tentative date I would like to take my exam on that date if I felt comfortable with all objectives and concepts.
I'm giving it 4 hours daily using 9i/2k and 9i/Solaris 8
I hope this clears your ambiguities and curiosity about my preparation. It's not difficult that's my feeling it's more conceptual in nature.
Regards
All the best on your endeavors.

Shaan:
Thank you so much for your reply. It's indeed an intensive preparation. I think you have no problem to pass this exam. Please keep us posted for your good news.
I just passed 8i update last week. I think I may need four months or more to prepare for 9i update exam. Thank you for the useful study materials information. I will start to prepare it.
Good luck,

Try everything you are learning for the exam on a real server if you can. Obviously some areas like RAC are hard to recreate unless you have access to some cool hardware, but most other areas can be practiced at home on a Windows NT/2000 PC.
Alot of the documentation is still sketchy regarding some features so having a go yourself forces you to really concentrate on what they are actually saying, rather than what you think they are saying.
Take a look at my revision notes and the PDF by Howard Rogers:

Hope this helps and good luck...

TimHall:
Thank you very much for your tips, which are just what I need now.
I just printed Oracle 9i New Featues by Howard Rogers, and will install 9i server on Windows 2000.
Your web site is one of those I visit daily. It gains a "MUST web site" reputation for 9i now, plus there are lots of other contents. I like "DBA Scripts". I am also a Ph. D in Biology, hoping someday I can do as good as you are.
Thanks again,
