Hi,
We are on Oracle 8.1.7/ NT 4.
I recently migrated the database from 8.0.5 to 8.1.7.1.3.
In that process, I dropped the old Oracle service with
oradim80 -delete -sid command
and recreated new Oracle service with
oradim -new -sid -intpwd ... command.
I gave password for -intpwd parameter. But now, when I connect to internal. It does not ask me any password and successfully connects.
How do I make to ask me password which I gave in oradim command?
Thanks in Adv.

are you connecting remotely or serverside?
I believe serverside does not ask for a password.

Hi jgmagnus,
It was asking password on server side prior to upgrade.
On other instance which is still 805, it asks me the password when I say connect internal.
Thanks,
Sam

Hi
Because during the Installation or Oracle 8i on Windows it creates a group on your windows Operating system called as
ora_dba
The Os user must be a part of this group that is the reason it is not asking you for the Internal password

I suggest you comment out the line SQLNET_AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES in your sqlnet.ora file. Then you will be asked for password.

Hi Santosh,
it has not created any new group such as ora_dba on our windows Operating system.
Hi Julian,
That did the trick. I commented it out and now its asking me the password.
Thanks alot to both of you.

You are welcome. That is one silly feature of Oracle...
